Overview
Advances in HIV anti-retroviral therapies in recent years have allowed for a newly emerging HIV+ population that is aging well into and beyond their 50's and 60's. While research on cognition in younger HIV+ individuals demonstrates a risk for earlier onset of cognitive decline, there is little research on the prevalence and characteristics of HIV associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) among patients over the age of 60. In addition to shedding light on the impact of HIV infection on cognition and function in this oldest demographic, our HIV+ Over 60 Cohort Study will also provide insight into geriatric syndromes and the predictive ability of some frailty measures on cognition.
This is a longitudinal study which will follow participants annually. Our approach involves annual data collection through neurological exams, neuropsychological and functional testing, geriatric syndromes assessment, laboratory tests, and, on some years, multi-modal brain imaging.

- Assessment of depressive symptoms and psychiatric comorbidity
- Medication review
